They were shamelessly knocked out of the group stage in the last world cup, failing to beat any major team. The journey of England cricket team, from hitting rock bottom to reach the pinnacle of success, has been intriguing.
The tremendous hard work put in over the course of four years by the England’s cricket team is difficult to realize for someone who has not been a part of it. Well, they say, Rome was not built in a day, neither was this champion team.
I have tried my level best to outline, step by step, how England managed to achieve this remarkable feet and what we can pull out of this to apply in our life.

Realization

England’s cricket team was shattered to pieces after their embracing exit from the World Cup-2015 After leading England to their maiden ODI World Cup trophy, captain Eoin Morgan, in an interview to Michael Waugh, said about a match against Bangladesh, who pushed them out of the World Cup-2015 after a victory over them,”We were chasing 275, and we were more than capable of chasing it down-it was a good wicket and against Bangladesh, who we had beaten previously, in one-day series ”. “When it came to every crunch moment in the game, however, we fell short. We crumbled”, he added.
The realization by ECB and captain Eoin Morgan of their vulnerability to succumb to pressure formed a basis to bring about change in the way they had approached in this format.

Strategy

The importance of strategy,The importance of a plan

First and foremost, they decided to shift their priority to one-day cricket. Desperately wanted to enhance their performances in the shorter format, they made up their mind to dedicate all these four years left to prepare for next World Cup. They kept on working out their strategy, and team team management decided that:
They would back Eoin Morgan as a caption.
They would go with a different team in one-day cricket to pave the way for young cricketers and exclude senior players like Anderson and Broad etc.

Action

They stood by what they had decided for the well-being of the team. They kept on introducing new players to fit in the places left after reshuffle. Eoin Morgan encouraged his teammates to play fearless cricket and ensured them a sense of security in the team. The unbelievable results started coming out.
The team recorded highest win-loss ratio from the end of WC 2015 to 14th May, 2019-2.434, put up 36 300-plus totals,4 400-plus totals which includes all time one-day highest -481 runs that they scored against Australia in 2018- in just 86 games played during this period.

Flexibility

England’s bowling attack started exposing during this period, but it was covered well by their tremendous batting line-up. The team management had an eye on a bowler who could generate genuine pace to threaten batsman and strike a balance in the bowling line-up. Jofra Archer’s remarkable performance in the IPL-2019 caught their attention, but there were many rules and restriction as there for a non-English player to be included in the team. All the rules were modified to make his inclusion possible and, rest is history. Bagging 20 wickets-highest for England’s cricket team, He played a pivotal role in helping the team win the World Cup.

This demonstrates how a plan needs to be executed and how we can adopt these basics steps to turn around our lives the way England’s cricket team did.
